We've watched a bunch of movies now and I have not updated the blog. I will have to forgo a full review on each movie, so I can catch up.... now if I can only remember what we watched (that speaks volumes about a movie if I can't even remember it). Out of a 10 point possibility I'm going to give the number and some really basic thoughts:
Iron-Man 2 : 6 - not nearly as good as the 1st one, but was still reasonably fun.
The Runaways: 3 - I was never a big Jett fan, so this movie did nothing for me and meant nothing. yawn-fest.
Kick-Ass: 8 - loved it. I liked the comic book angle, the characters were fun and it was a cool idea.
How to Train your Dragon: 9 - loved it. I love animation movies and dragons. It's a no brainer for me.
500 Days of Summer: 6 - I liked it because it was not your standard romantic-comedy, but it wasn't great.
GI Joe: 8 - Pure action and very cool effects and ideas. I hope they do more.
Like I said....really basic thoughts. I'll try to start up with a somewhat bigger "review" with the next movie we see. For now, I have to get some dialog going on this blog. Hopefully Nick will save the day.

New Chris Bantz Blog
Since gardening season is over (for me), I don't have much to write in my gardening or pumpkin blogs, so I thought I'd start a weekly review of basic movies. I know there's a ton of movie reviewers out there, but how often do you find one that agrees with your point of view or has similar tastes? We subscribe to the "one at a time" Netflix movies, so I won't be writing too often. In any case, feel free to comment on my top 10 or any of the movies I review. I plan to do quick and simple reviews basically on how much a movie entertained me(us). I don't care much about award shows and "critics picks", but we'll see where the blog takes us.
I'll start the ball rolling with 2 movies. The first one is "The Invention of Lying". I saw the original ads on tv when it was first released in the theater and I thought hmmm, this looks like it has some funny situations and has the potential to be pretty funny. I thought wrong. I'm not sure if it was Ricky Gervais or the movie in general, but it just wasn't funny. It was your standard cookie cutter romantic comedy, but it just wasn't funny and was obviously predictable (granted, they mostly are). It had its moments with Jennifer Garner being straight up, but I didn't think it was enough to make the movie worth watching. On a scale of 1-10, I'd give The Invention of Lying a 4.
Unfortunately, the 2nd movie up for review, "Sex Drive" was only slightly better. It was your standard coming of age teen comedy, with jokes and humorous situations that have been seen in countless similar movies. It reminded me of "The Sure Thing" from 1985. I like to watch the Unrated version of movies, but at the start of this one, the director recommends you watch the rated version first and then the unrated. I can't imagine sitting through the movie twice. It was funny, but overall it wasn't as good as I was expecting. I blame the local DJ at 96.5TIC. He claimed it was one of the funniest movies he's ever seen. He's a pretty funny guy, but I wonder if I would have enjoyed the movie more if he had said that he liked the movie and thought it was pretty good. Trying to ignore his opinion I would give Sex Drive a 6
